Myofascial Release

Myofascial release (or MFR) is a soft tissue therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle immobility and pain. This alternative medicine therapy aims to relax contracted muscles, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulate the stretch reflex in muscles.

At Thriving Chiropractic we engage the myofascial tissue "restrictive barrier" (tension). We engage the tissue loaded with constant force until "release" occurs. Direct release is sometimes called "deep tissue work", a misnomer as some of the important tissues are quite superficial. Our Practitioners use knuckles, elbows, or other tools to slowly stretch the fascia by applying a few kilograms-force or tens of newtons. Direct myofascial release is an attempt to bring about changes in the myofascial structures by stretching or elongation of fascia, or mobilizing adhesive tissues. The practitioner moves slowly through the layers of the fascia until the deeper tissues are reached.

Graston

Graston Technique (GT) is a trademarked therapeutic method for diagnosing and treating disorders of the skeletal muscles and related connective tissue. The method employs a collection of six stainless steel tools of particular shape and size, which are used by practitioners to rub patients' muscles in order to detect and resolve adhesions in the muscles and tendons. Our Practitioners are licensed by TherapyCare Resources Inc.

The Graston Technique® incorporates an evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function.

Activator

The Activator Method Chiropractic Technique is a chiropractic treatment method and device created by Arlan Fuhr as an alternative to manual manipulation of the spine or extremity joints. The device is categorized as a mechanical force manual assisted (MFMA) instrument which is generally regarded as a softer chiropractic treatment technique.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive medical test that helps us diagnose and treat medical conditions. Ultrasound is safe and painless, and produces pictures of the inside of the body using sound waves. Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, involves the use of a small transducer (probe) and ultrasound gel placed directly on the skin.

Infrared

Infrared radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation, as are radio waves, ultraviolet radiation, imaging studies and microwaves. Infrared (IR) light is the part of the EM spectrum that people encounter most in everyday life, although much of it goes unnoticed. It is invisible to human eyes, but people can feel it as heat. One of the reported benefits of far infrared heat (otherwise known as FIR, or radiant heat) is that it helps to relieve pain better than the more topical, less absorbent heat that we are exposed to, like the heat that comes from our furnace in the winter.

Electro Muscle-stimulation

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), also known as neuromuscularelectrical stimulation (NMES) or electromyostimulation, is the elicitation of muscle contraction using electric impulses. This is a natural way to promote muscle recovery. It is FDA approved, convenient, portable, and easy to use. Reduces muscle tension, 6 different muscle recovery and relaxation programs Customizable intensity levels; Soothes tired, expended muscles in 10 different body parts.

Traction

Spinal traction is a modality (treatment activity) given by our physical therapists, chiropractors and other spine specialists in our office for pain management. The purpose of traction is to apply a force that draws two adjacent bones away from each other in order to make more room between them. Traction also stretches the soft tissue that surrounds the joint. We give Traction manually, by means of a device, a mechanical traction table, or via positioning.

Rehabilitative Exercises

After an injury or surgery, an exercise conditioning program will help you return to daily activities and enjoy a more active, healthy lifestyle. These general conditioning programs provide a wide range of exercises. To ensure that the programs are safe and effective for you, you will be working with our experienced and licensed Physical Therapists.
